The Somali Integration Team

The Somali Integration Team (SIT) is a non-profit voluntary organisation established in 2004, we are securing registered charity status.

Our aim is to support disadvantaged female Tower Hamlets residents, to become independent and socially included. We focus on supporting the needs of Somali women and promoting social cohesion within the wider community, though we are open to all women regardless of ethnicity. Run by women, for women, the organisation has rapidly grown and developed into the first point of contact and referral for mainstream organisations with Somali clients.

We enjoy a strong relationship with the local authority and other organisations. We have supported over 400 individuals ranging from ages 0-100 in achieving a better quality of life.  Year on year, the numbers of individuals who refer to our services has increased by at least 30%, a testimony to our determined and high quality work.

Third Sector Minister Angela Smith visited Somali Integration Team in February 2010, acknowledging and praising the Team as an “outstanding organisation who have done so much in such a small amount of time and that other organisations need to learn from SIT”.
